My take on one of Hyuna's looks in her Troublemake MV

When I first saw the teaser for this MV, I was literally giddy about  Hyuna’s makeup in this video because it is just so gorgeous. As you all know, Hyuna is a member of a K-pop group called 4Minute and as a solo artist, her image is  very sexy like a vixen. I just love how they interpret her sexiness through her eye looks (Not so much with her clothes though! :\ (But I do love that leopard print maxi dress). I love how they exaggerate the cat eyes in her makeup to make her look ultra fierce in her videos. There are probably about four looks in this MV, but my friend and I agreed that her bronze makeup and her smoky eyes paired with red lips definitely stood out the most.

But if you want to see her dark smoky look, here’s the photo tutorial on how to achieve it.

Aside from the usual foundation/BB cream, concealer, powder, and Mascara. Here are the main components of this look:

1) Eye shadows – brown, silver, charcoal/black (From a H&M eye shadow palette)

2) Black Eye liner both gel and pencil. I suggest gel eyeliner as the main eyeliner for this look because  it gives this look that bold and fierceness that can only be achieved using gel liner. (Tony Moly Backstage Gel liner in Black and Urban Decay’s 24/7 eyeliner pencil in Zero)

3) Red lipstick or in my case, a very true red lip tint. (Maybelline Color Sensational Lip Stain in Cherry Pop)

4) Clear Lip Gloss (Victoria’s Secret Sweet Talk Clear Lip Gloss)

**The lenses I’m using are Neo Cosmo Glamour Lenses in Gray

Silver, brown, and Charcoal eye shadows I used in the palette.

Start off with foundation ready face and primed lids with this look. Using the silver shadow, apply it all over your lids to give it that necessary wash of color that the look has. Blend the brown eye shadow to your crease to deepen it. Darken the outer corner of your eyes with the charcoal color and wing it outwards. To give you a clear visual of the placement of eye shadows, here are the photos:

Excuse the lack of blending. We'll blend the colors later on. :p

Apply your eye shadows accordingly

You can apply a bit of the silver and charcoal shadow to your lower lash line. After applying your eye shadows, line your eyes using the gel liner. Make sure to wing out your eye liner and to fill in the gap below your liner to fake a bigger looking eye. Using the pencil eye liner, tight line or line the upper water line of your eyes as well as your lower water line.

Apply your gel liner and eye liner pencil accordingly

By this time, you must have blended your eye shadows together so you can get rid of those harsh lines.

To give your look a more catty appearance, you can line the inner part of your eyes and extend your liner toward your tear ducts to give it the fierce look it needs. RAWR!

Apply more liner to the inner part of your eyes to give it a more cat-like effect!

Hyuna doesn’t seem to have any blush or contour in the video so you can skip that step. Curl your lashes and apply tons of mascara if you’d like! Lastly, stain your lips with the red lip stain or use red lipstick and put on some clear gloss on top. That completes my take on the Hyuna look!

With Judy and Benji <3

I’m a huge fan of Youtube. Believe me when Youtube became popular, I was so happy that normal people would post videos of themselves doing makeup and making tutorials for us to recreate on our own. It’s like one big beauty community making videos for each other so we can interactively learn from one another. Now those regular people have stepped up their game and are now known as beauty gurus in Youtube. One of the beauty gurus that I followed was Judy with her channel itsjudytime. I followed her because she’s Filipina and because her videos were very informative about hair and makeup. Through the years she has been making videos for her beauty channel and has opened a new channel solely for videos that are not related to her beauty channel so we can have a peek at her life. That channel is itsjudyslife. People would think a Vlog channel would be boring, but honestly, getting a peek at someone else’s life isn’t boring at all if it’s Judy and Benji we’re talking about. Along with her husband Benji of BenjiManTV, they make the power couple of Youtube and watching their daily Vlogs has been a part of my daily Youtube fix. <3

When I heard that Judy was going to have a meet and greet here in Manila for the second time, I made sure that I was going to attend because last year, my schedule did not permit me to attend her first one.

The meet and greet was held in Red Mango Mall of Asia. It was quite far from where I live because I reside in the mountains (I kid you not! :p). But that did not stop me from going. So I tagged along a couple of my friends and had asked my beauty vlogger friend, Andee of ohthisislove, if she was coming. Fortunately, she was coming along with her sister Sab of MissCoryPotts and right then and there I was certain that it won’t be that awkward during the meet and greet.

During the meet and greet, Judy had a session where the attendees can ask anything about maintaining a channel on Youtube, Vlogging, etc. But the most interactive and fun part of the meet and greet was when she gave out NYX goodie bags as prizes to those who answered her questions correctly.

The holiday season is in full swing and the cold weather is starting to change my skin already. My lips alone can’t survive without lip balm on 24/7 and believe me, my lips are cracking and bleeding like crazy. But the good thing is, I can experiment with more lip based looks rather than eyes because it’s the season of fall/winter lip color! If you ask me, my favorite season to wear lipcolor is during the fall/winter season just because I can whip out my dark lipcolors. You guys know me, I LOVE my dark lipcolors.  But anyways enough of that.

Just want to let you guys know that I’m going to post entries quite soon. I’m working out on how I will be posting them and probably which post goes first because technically I have three lined up: Seoul Photo Blog, Hyuna’s Dark Trouble Maker look partnered with my friend Andee at OhItsAndee, and Fall/Winter Lip colors. Here in Manila, coffee shops are all very similar. They all have earthy drawings of coffee beans and cups on the walls, well cushioned wooden furniture,  and have standard coffee shop music playing the whole time. I guess it’s a way to say that no matter which area of the city you go, you will always find that familiar spot for you to do whatever it is you’re accustomed to doing in this place. It’s a good thing for some, but a downside to me. I like the uncommon sights and places with a theme or a personal flair added into them. This is where Subspace makes up for that.

I first heard of Subspace from my K-pop loving friends. They kept on raving about this place tucked in Ortigas where they sell Purple Potato Lattes and have Banana milk at hand. But what really drew me in to check this place out is because it is patterned after artsy coffee shops in Seoul. If we have several Starbucks branches  at every major road here in Manila, Seoul’s coffee shop culture is different. They don’t have a Starbucks at every single street, but they have a lot of independent coffee shops run by young adults – normally a group of friends or just an art aficionado who loves coffee. Their coffee shops reflect their taste in art or their interests. I guess in this case it’s safe to say that the owners are definitely into k-pop and home design  from the merchandise being sold at the counter and posters all over the place to the modern interior design pieces which they also sell at their store just a few buildings down from the coffee shop itself.

Yes that's right. Chair installation in the ceiling. Trust me, I was in awe for a good 5 minutes when I saw this. lol

Aside from the art that’s seen in every corner of this quaint space, they serve something that other coffee shops don’t and these are the most talked about drinks in the blogosphere as well, with endless recommendations from those who have tried them. The most raved about drinks in this place are the Purple Potato Lattes and the Peanut Butter Lattes. I am not a fan of peanut butter if it doesn’t come in a cup and is covered in milk chocolate :p so naturally I ordered the Purple Potato Latte.

I have to say that if you just want something to try from the usual lattes, go ahead and give it a go. But other than that,  it is ube pastillas in liquid form which is not so bad as I like those candies.

Overall I have to say that Subspace Coffee was a good break from the usual coffee shops. I won’t think twice in visiting as often as I can because I heard their food is also delicious.  But for now, I am at least assured I have this space not far off in the galaxy to experience coffee like I did back in Seoul. Feels a bit like a second home to me at least.

Etude House's Tear Drop Liner

Teardrop liner first of all is basically glitter liner. If you don’t have an Etude House store where you live, don’t feel bad if you can’t get your hands on it because a lot of brands carry glitter liners (NYX, MAC, Urban Decay, Stila, Makeup Forever, etc.). The teardrop liner look is preferred by most Korean celebrities and ulzzangs because it brightens up the eyes and gives that innocent teary doe-eyed  look. Korean celebrities who are known to rock this look are T-ara, Bom of 2NE1, and IU.

For this tutorial, I have made a step by step photo procedure to help you guys out on creating this look.

Steps:

1)  Start by applying a good eye primer to your lids. This will prevent your eyeliner from smudging. For this I used Etude House’s Proof10 Eye Primer.

2) Create a guide line for your wing using eyeliner. I prefer gel liner as always because I’m used to working with it and it lasts the longest. To make this line, you have to trace the shape of the lower line of your eye and extend it to make a wing.

3) Thicken the wing going inside the outer half of your upper lash line.

4) Trace back the line from the inner half of your eyes to connect to the previous line you made. Make sure the line weight is not consistent. It should be thinner from the inside and thicker as you go out. (Tony Moly Backstage gel liner in Black)

5) Line the outer half of your lower lash line with black eyeliner and smudge. (Urban Decay 24/7 pencil liner in Zero)

6) Apply a shimmery powder to the inner corners of your eyes. For this one, I used an iridescent white with a purple sheen . You may also use gold or silver. (Victoria Secret Beauty Rush loose powder shadow)

7) Apply the tear drop or glitter liner to the inner half of your lower lash line.

8 ) Lastly, apply mascara to your top and bottom lashes, and you’re done! (Maybelline The Magnum mascara in Black)

Voila! If you practice doing this routine, you can get this done in 5 minutes! Literally an out the door look if you’re a bit lazy like me! ^^

But enough with the traveling talk. The other reason why I have been away as well and at that time,I actually REFUSE to post photos of myself  because I had a minor surgery. The surgery I went through is to remove the stubborn mole that I grew up with ever since it decided to pop out during my years in kindergarten. It is such a relief to remove something that has been bothering you and giving you so much trouble ever since. I had experienced so much with such a tiny imperfection on my face. I was given names, teased, insulted (whether they were intentional or not) the whole duration that I’ve had it on my face. It’s like a constant reminder everyday for me of everything I’ve gone through. I know it may sound so emotional, but I have been wanting ever since puberty to have it removed. Having it removed wasn’t so much of a big decision to make as well because it was an automatic yes once I have been given the go signal from my father to find a surgeon who can remove it.

So now that I have come back, I will try and plan the succeeding posts that I will put here. I hope you all look forward to them as much as I do and you can contact me any time if you want to see anything here.

They remind me so much of planets.

Today I attempted water marbling on my nails. I have to say that even though the procedure sounds easy, it is very messy and it needs a ton of patience. I first heard of water marbling through a Youtube video by SimpleLittlePleasues. I won’t be making a detailed post on this yet since this is my first time doing it and I have to admit I was flustered half of the time and my whole desk was seriously covered with nail polish splatters. But the result I got turned out quite well. Excuse the poor job I did on cleaning my nails and fingers. It was really tough trying to clean up afterwards without smearing or ruining the patterns I just did on my nails.  I did random color combinations just to test it out first and was giggling after since I realized they looked like the surface of planets.  I finished everything off with a matte top coat. I used matte instead of a shiny topcoat because I thought that it would show the marbling more.

UPDATE:

So far after using the garlic treatment on my nails, I noticed that they have indeed become stronger and definitely less brittle. They don’t peel as much as before as well. Getting used to the garlic smell was a feat but it goes away after a day or two.

For today’s look I have decided to do Bae Suzy’s makeup in their latest single Goodbye Baby. What I like about Miss A’s makeup here is that they don’t have a ton of makeup as opposed to other girl groups. Basically they focus on bold eyeliner and that’s it. No shimmer and no dark lipsticks. It looks as if the rest of the face is bare but they have a strong eyeliner look that complements each of the girls’ eye shapes.

Suzy's eye makeup

Out of all the four’s eye makeup, I decided to do Suzy’s because it is the most uncommon style of eye makeup compared to the other three. Min, Fei, and Jia’s eye makeup is basically winging out a thick eyeliner. It’s that simple. But Suzy’s eye makeup needs a bit more technique as hers is a tad bit different.

For this look, you will be needing these:

1) Makeup base. In this case I used Stick foundation. 2) Eye Primer 3) Peach Lip Tint 4) Black Gel Eyeliner 5) Concealer 6) Black Eyeliner pencil 7) Berry/Red Tint (For your cheeks and lips)

(I forgot to take a photo of the dark brown eyeshadow I used that was in a palette. It’s one of the key steps to creating this look so don’t forget that!  Sorry -___-’ )

To do Suzy’s eye makeup, all you have to do is to line your upper lashline with the black gel liner following the natural shape of your eyes. You don’t flick it up to do a cat eye, but you just naturally follow the line. It should extend a bit outside. After doing that, you line your lower waterline  and I suggest you do a tight line as well with the black eye pencil. With that, you are going to take the dark brown eyeshadow and you apply it below the extended line that you made with your upper lashline shading it to fill in the gaps and connect it to your lower lashline. The point is to create a different eyeshape since Suzy has those smiling eyes, creating a different eyeshape for her using eyeshadow and eyeliner will make her eyes look stronger. Curl your lashes and apply mascara as usual and you’ve got the eye look down!

What it should look like after creating a new eyeshape

For the rest of the face, everything will be very minimal. I put on foundation mixed with my moisturizer all over my face and applied concealer sparingly to hide imperfections. I just applied some berry cheek tint to my cheeks for a bit of color. For the lips I used a peach lip tint instead of a berry lip tint to make it more subtle.

My face at almost 1AM so excuse my weird expressions T__T

* Face looks oily because I refuse to wear powder at that time since I don’t want cakey looking makeup for the camera to pick up. Plus my skin has large pores so T_T I only wish to have porcelain perfection k-pop skin lol

UPDATE:

Out of impatience, I tried it out on my left hand’s set of nails. Right now I can totally say that IT DOES STINK. Maybe because I am very sensitive to smells. But thankfully when I’m doing things, I forget that I have it on my nails. But once in a while when my left hand comes near my nose, I can smell it. Some may be able to handle it, some may not. But so far I think I can. I will let you guys know if the smell fades eventually.

This whole week I have been contemplating on trying out this nail treatment that I honestly read from Michelle Phan’s blog. She talks about worldwide beauty secrets. The usual beauty secrets are found in that list except for one particular secret originating from the Dominican Republic. It requires you to put garlic in your nail polish to create a nail strengthener. Being curious about how garlic helps strengthen nails, I immediately looked it up and read that the sulphur minerals in garlic will help strengthen your nails and make them harder. At first I was skeptical since we all know how strong garlic’s smell stays on your hands when you peel or chop them up. But they say the smell dissipates once the polish has dried on your nails.

Word has it that the strengthener is so good that it can make your nails as strong as acrylics. Being a nailcare addict, I definitely had to try it since I literally have nail polish on my nails all the time and have noticed that when you do that despite the nail hardeners and base coats, your nails will eventually weaken.

This morning, I have concocted my garlic nail strengthener and you can do it too without worrying that you don’t have the necessary ingredients at home.

What you need:

- A bottle of clear or colored polish

- a clove or two of crushed garlic.

All you have to do is mince and crush the garlic and put it in your preferred nail polish. I had a fresh bottle of polish so I had to drain a bit of it so that it won’t overflow once I put in the garlic. You have to let your concoction marinate for 6-7 days and use it as a form of treatment. I don’t know if my method will work but I normally use nail strengtheners before I apply basecoat so I will probably use that method first once my garlic nail strengthener is ready.

I will make a follow up post on this once I have tried this for about a month or so~~~~ ^___^
